I have read dozens of books on meditation and was trained in Transcendental Meditation back in the early 1970s. I found Meditation by Eknath Easwaran to be the best of them. The book contains practical, common-sense suggestions for establishing an effective meditation practice. Easwaran has a calm, gentle, and yet authoritative manner with his writing. He also expresses amusement and delight–two characteristics of an enlightened person. He has published 50+ books and Meditation was republished in 1991 with the title Passage Meditation.
